1916 is a combination of musicians from various bands and genres who came together. Walter Baldwin and Douglas Kirk, who played with a group called 'Loveday,' were the first members of the band. Rich Cheney joined and his style of playing enhanced the band. Rich had previously played guitars and vocals for various hard rock bands including a local Bakersfield rapcore band “Twistid Methodz”. His guitar styles of grinding, hard rock rhythms somehow complimented the Celtic sound quite naturally.
From there, 1916 acquired the talents of piper Eric Boyd. Eric is a former member of the Celtic bands “Silent Planet” and “Tartanic” as well as “Sonic Impulse”, the “Los Angeles Police Department Pipe Band”, “City of Glendale Pipe Band” and “Cabar Feidh Pipe Band”. He was recently nominated for a Celtic radio Music Award with “Silent Planet” and completed a project for the independent film "El Superstar: The Unlikely Rise of Juan Frances." Also joining 1916 is guitarist and vocalist Travis Byler. Travis is a well-known Bakersfield guitarist whose guitar styles vary from rock to blues. His vocal style blends perfectly with anyone he sings with if not just singing alone. He is the perfect addition to add just the right amount of energy needed to keep the 1916 sound explosive. 1916 Released their debut album, “Uprising”, in 2009… followed by their second album, “Long Road Home”, in 2010.
